Hell- Don't keep it quiet.

Tue Jun 23, 2009, 10:53 AM
"But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:" 2 Corinthians 4:3

I heard a few people say that I preach on Hell more times than I ought to. I disagree. I mentioned hell, but I don't think I discussed it enough. Most Christians tend to preach on Heaven more because it's pleasant, it's non-offensive, it makes one happy; it's true. YET---there doesn't appear to be a loud outcry of those preaching about Hell, and I think I know why.

:bulletred: Reason one- Some Christians think it's too offensive! It's a scare tactic, or it's the bad news gospel. (Although 'gospel' means good news anyway. lol)

:bulletblue: Reason two- Many people believe that God will allow anyone in Heaven because He is a loving God. True, God IS a loving God, but he is also a JUST and fair God. Not all people will make it to Heaven; many will go straight to Hell. I'll explain further in an upcoming journal.

:bulletyellow: Reason three- Some folks don't believe in Hell at all.

:bulletpurple: Reason four- Fear.

Some Christians have made the mistake of preaching about Hell in ways that are offensive. Well, the Westboro congregation constantly give Christians a bad name with their hellacious hate speech. By the way, they're not even Christians. ANYWAY, It's important to preach about Hell considering the WIDE variety of ways one can enter Hell. Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (Matthew 7:13) I'll tell you that I didn't like it when I was told about Hell and how I can get down their so easily, but once I learned of Hell, and read an awesome book called, "A Divine Revelation of Hell" by Mary K. Baxter, I definitely wanted Heaven MORE than what I did before, Praise God. So then, I'll be preaching on Hell for quite some time, Lord willingly. The topic of Hell may be daunting, but it must be preached, yall. Thank you; God bless you all.

Under point two, I'd clarify that God doesn't send people to Hell, we choose to go there wether we know it or not. Ultimately, the purpose of life is to make one decision: where do we go next?
My view, anyway.

You are right. We did to talk about Hell to tell unsaved people that if they don't get their lives together and get right with God, they will go there.
We all deserve to go to Hell, but Thank God for Jesus dieing on the cross for our sins.
It is important because it tells people what Hell is like. But people can escape Hell by giving their lives to Christ.
Jesus Himself even spoke of Hell. That story He told of the rich man and Lazarus (God, I hope I got the name right). How the rich man went to Hell and how Lazarus went Heaven.

There is even a book out there called "23 Minutes in Hell."
It's about a guy who went to Hell and lived to talk about it He wrote a book about it to tell people what Hell is like.

I believe that there is a saying out there that says: "Tell people about Jesus...it will scare the Hell out of them."
Or something like that. I forgot.

Praise God for this.

And I agree. I edited the second reason.

I remember that saying about "scaring the hell outta ppl." lol You are right, praise God. I'll definitely be adding in the the rich man parable.

Thank the Lord indeed.

I have to disagree with you one one point, Xiao, you said there are 'many ways to enter hell." I know of only one:

Not believing in Jesus as our Lord and Savior is the only thing that will keep us out of heaven, therefore the only way that we can enter hell is to not believe in Jesus. ^^;

I'm a "once saved, always saved." Believer... so thats why I believe that. I believe that when we accept Jesus we are His for eternity. (I'm not talking about those who only say with their mouths that they trust in Him, I'm talking about those who are sincere, but only God can know our hearts.)

Yes, talking bout hell is important, but so is talking about how Awesome Jesus is, how amazing he is to know and how he can change our lives. And how much he loved us so we don't have to endure hell...

I read your phrase above, and part of it bothers me: To "scare" one into believing in God doesn't sound "Real" to me... I can say "I want to believe in God so i can get a 'get out of hell free' card...but God can see through that... he doesn't want us to fear him ALL the time, he wants a relationship with us... not slaves or puppets.

yes, it's good to have a healthy fear of God, because he's GOD. But we shouldn't just accept him because we don't want to go to hell...

We're all Hell bound if we don't have Christ. There are many paths that can lead a person to Hell. For instance, there are several religions in the world that says "this is the way to salvation", there are those who believe that good deeds will take a person to Heaven, and don't forget about the present day pharisees. This is what I meant when I said there are MANY ways to Hell as the scripture says,"...wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction." I believe in 'once saved always saved', too, but that's another topic I hope to discuss later. The message I'll be preaching on is specifically for those who are NOT saved.

My studies on Hell is all bibically based. Hell is an important issue considering that God died and raised again for us all so that we wouldn't burn in Hell. Seriously, how GREAT is it of God to know just how awful Hell is that he became a man, died for our sins, rose again conquering death?? Hell is very awful, and if we Christians keep a lid on the topic due to insecurities, many people will miss out on the message.

...and I didn't say I was going to scare anybody. I'll admit that Hell is SCARY beyond our imaginations. Preaching about Hell is not a friendly topic because Hell isn't a friendly place. The message will not be 100% gloom and doom though. Just wait. You'll see what the Lord will have me to write.

I look forward to reading your thoughts on the once saved always saved thing.
I'm not sure what i believe in regards to that.

Hell is indeed scary, but that shouldn't be people's (only) reason for wanting a relationship with God.
Sometimes scare tactics drive people away more than drawing them in, but I know you can balance things right.

I for one believe that there must be at least two different places we refer to as Hell.
The first is Sheol, where all souls used to go, a place that sounds rather like Elysian and Tartarus from Greek Legends, while the other is Gehenna, the final place for those who reject Christ.

I think most people wrongfully say "God will send you to Hell!" (like the Westboroites and many well meaning people.)
God wants to keep us out of Hell, or else he would not have made a way to redeem us from our sin.
Ultimately we choose to accept Heaven or reject it and thus "go to hell".

The problem with the world now is the only sin in man's eyes seems to be preventing or even speaking out against sin.
